Runner Girl

In April, Ravyn was invited, by her PE teacher, to participate in the Gulf Breeze Elementary Cross Country run for Kindergarten thru 5th grades within our school district.

We knew about it for a few months in advance and on the big day she was so excited.

I wish I could say Rio felt the same way.  He was bummed he couldn't run with sissy.

First she stretched

then walked down to the start line with the Vice Principal of her school.

And they were off!

Did I mention it was a 2-mile run?  Yep, there’s my precious 6 year old anxiously starting her run.

But, typical Ravyn style, she ROCKED it!!  In a little over 19 minutes!!  That’s faster than I run!

Here she is with her finishers ribbon.

I knew she had done fairly well, but it turns out she won 1st place for Kindergarten girls!!

I could not have been more proud!  She had a great time, but she was totally upset that sweat actually dripped down her back!  I guess there’s a first time for everything. : )

When I talked with her PE teacher the next day she let me know that there were nearly 300 runners in 3 corrals each starting 2 minutes apart.  And my little girl came in 61st overall.  Congrats Ravyn!!  I guess there’s a reason that her PE teacher calls her the running machine. : )

Here she is with Rio and Mrs. Savage, her PE teacher, after the race.

She is such a beautiful athlete. She runs full out, swims full out, an bikes like the wind. I remember her biking all through the house in Okinawa at 2 1/2 yrs. She rode it all day. If she is not moving she is not happy. What a gem! And Rio is a carbon copy. What wonderful children. We love them both.
