No adventures for us this week.
As of this morning, Wednesday, we are locked down on the base except to travel to school, work, church, and essential appointments. This is all the unfortunate result of a Marine being arrested on suspicion of rape. With any high profile negative event, here on the island, there is always a backlash to get rid of the Americans, but it was made worse when a few days later another Marine drunkenly walked into a stranger's (Japanese national) house and fell asleep on the sofa.
So, today came the announcement that we are hereby confined to the base for an indefinite "period of reflection" in order to gain back the trust of the Japanese. Hopefully, it won't be long, but I am sure it will last through the weekend.
Of course, what you can't have is what you want most. No sushi, no curry, no noodles, ugh!!!
