I can still remember when we landed at Kadena Air Base with our baby girl, wondering what this place would be like, anxious to explore our new surroundings. Today, a little over 3 years later, we are boarding our plane to leave the island with our little girl and baby boy.
Okinawa was great to us. It wasn't just a duty station added to the places we've been, it was home. When we went back to the states or on vacation, we looked forward to going home, home to Okinawa. The island also gave us many firsts. From driving on the left, to Ravyn's first day of school, to riding out a Category 4 typhoon, they only prepared us for the arrival of our baby boy Rio.
Rio will be our greatest souvenir, but we're leaving behind many lifelong friends that will forever be in our hearts. In the military, it is inevitable that we will meet again, but for myself and my treasured Japanese friends it will be a little a harder. I look forward to the next time I return to Okinawa and for their first trip to Florida!!!: )
