Now what?

Okay, so today I, "we," went against my mother's advice and ripped out everything in the planting bed without knowing exactly what our plans were going to be. You see, ever since we got the keys to the house I have had an intense hatred for this area because it blocked the entire window in front of the house. Was it the wisest thing to do? No. But do I feel like a million bucks with a bank slate in front of me? Yes.
So, here's what we have now.

In this barren space there used to be 3 five-foot tall holly berry bushes, a monstrous 5 foot high and five foot around mystery shrub and several boxwoods? that had been battered and were not growing correctly. What is out there now are 4 Crotons along the garage wall and alternating Mondo Grass and Lillies around the border. There are also some Mexican Heather that will be transplanted somewhere in the bed.
So, here's my question and I want ANSWERS!!! I can't tell you how many people say they read the blog, but I don't get any feedback. I need answers people. What would YOU do with the space? In my grand plan I am going for a tropical look with little upkeep. I need a focal point. Should it be a palm tree, a bird bath, what do you think?
Until we figure this out, we'll just keep playing in the dirt.

Wow - I'm SO not gardeny, but is this the same lawn with the worst case of thatch? If so, DANG! It looks lovely!
