Ravyn's Birthday at School

Today, was Ravyn's birthday celebration at school. Since only "food from the earth" is allowed, this is what we brought for snack.

But before snack, we had to celebrate.

Ravyn, and the Earth, have gone around the sun 4 times!!!

In Montessori fashion, the student carries the "Earth" around the sun (candle) one time for each year they have been alive. After each rotation is completed the teacher reads a synopsis of personal milestones that took place that year.

And since Ravyn is at a different Montessori this year, there were a few differences to the ceremony. After the class sang her "Happy Birthday" in about 5 languages, she got to ring the gong 4 times. Apparently this gong is only rung on birthdays so it is a special time. Ravyn rang it once, very lightly, and had to be encouraged to keep going. I think she had a hard time understanding that the normal rules did not apply to her on her special day.

When everything was done, Ravyn enjoyed showing us some of her favorite lessons.
