Here on Okinawa geckos are plentiful. Not outside, like lizards in the states, but inside. On the walls, in the cabinets, I've even found one in my dresser drawer. Yes, it's startling when you see one, but on Okinawa they are considered guardians of the house or yamori. Why are they revered? Because they eat all of the little insects that you truly don't want in the house like spiders and those pesky bugs that gather around a light at night.
Here's a gecko I ran into last night.
Oh, and keep in mind, geckos bark. Yes, that's right, they make a loud noise similar to a dog barking. Sleep on that.
